What are the eligibility criteria for the young researchers, (or co-PIs) of the chairs?

Are considered as “young researchers”:

  • Researchers or faculty members first hired anywhere on a permanent position (MCF traineeships included) after September 1st 2017 (at the University of Lille or elsewhere). There is no constraint on the PhD date.
  • The young researcher can have been hired on a permanent position by the University of Lille or one of the partner institutions of the WILL project (CNRS, Inserm, Inria, Centrale Lille).
  • The project can involve several young permanent researcher(s) from ULille.
  • Professors, even recently hired, are not considered as young researchers.
  • Other researchers or faculty members hired on permanent position before sept. 1st, 2017, are not eligible, even if they were hired in Lille recently in the context of a mutation.
  • Postdocs are not permanent young researchers.

 

Are CPJ researchers (Chaire de professeur junior) eligible to apply as young researcher (Co-PI)?

Yes, researchers recruited under CPJ contracts are eligible as young researcher co-PI of the chairs.

 

Is it possible to involve 2 co-PIs in the research project?

Yes, it is possible.

 

Does the senior PI have to come exclusively from a “key partner” institution mentioned in the call for projects?

No. A particular attention will be paid to collaborations with key partners, but the call for projects is open to applicant PIs from other universities.  In case of equality of quality, an application with one of our priority partners will be preferred.

 

Can the senior PI be a professor emeritus?

No. The senior PI must be active in research within his/her lab/university.

 

Is it possible to submit a project with a partner Institution that already holds a WILL Chair?

Yes. The call is open to universities that already hold a WILL chair. However, it is worth noting that – in order to develop new partnerships - a particular attention will be paid to research collaborations with new partner universities.

 

Is it possible to apply if the senior PI retires before the end of the WILL project?

This particular case is admissible. However, we will pay a particular attention to the continuation of the project after the senior PI's retirement. For example, the application can include a presentation of the person who will succeed the senior PI (CV, profile, motivations, etc.).

 

Can a research unit submit several projects?

Yes, it is possible.

 

Is there a help desk in charge of supporting the applicants and reviewing their application form?

No.

 

Is it possible to adjust the budget?

Yes, it is possible to adjust the budget while respecting the global budget of 500.000,00€. Furthermore, the "operating expanses" can include operating, travelling and investing costs. Expenditure items dedicated to recruitment must be maintained but can be re-evaluated.


What about the ULille 8 weeks stay of the senior PI ? How is it organized?

The senior PI is expected to spend a few weeks at ULille, that can be done in one time or splited into several shorter stays. The 8 weeks stay duration is an expected minimum duration that can be reasoneably adjusted depending on the senior PI's availability.

 

Does ULille provide support to find Senior PI's accomodation?

The international chair doesn't include the booking of senior PI's accomodation. However, the Reeflex international residence, located in "Cité scientifique" campus is dedicated to welcoming international students and researchers for long and short periods.

 

How is the senior PI's salary transfered? What is it dedicated to?

The salary is transfered annually to the senior PI's University, to be the transfered to PI's personnal account. In total, 20.000€ salary will be transfered annually to finance senior PI's stays to Lille. The remaining amount is a personal salary for the senior PI.

 

Is it possible to mention several HUBs if my project is multidisciplinary, or is it better to focus on a single HUB?

If the project is multidisciplinary, then it is possible to mention all the HUBs involved in the project.

 

The chair must include lectures and courses in the graduate programs, how should it be organized?

It is highly recomanded to propose lectures in the graduate programs. However, if the research topic is not part of the graduate programs, courses can be given in other masters' programs, or seminars . We invite you to contact masters' program managers to let them know about the project and to anticipate the courses.

There is no compulsory framwork for the organization and duration of the courses, it can be adjusted depending on each project.
